We have a Wii Fit and we love it. Now I've heard there is a new version. Anyone know anything about it? Why should I get it instead of what I already have?

I have not! Though I have been using my regular Wii Fit a bit more lately. – slimmify Oct 24 at 18:06
I take that back ... we have it now. See my answer below. – slimmify Nov 4 at 4:12

I have gotten it. I racked up almost two hours' worth of Fit Credits tonight :)

There's quite a bit of extra stuff. It integrates seamlessly with Wii Fit, so now there's no real reason to use the original Wii Fit disc.

  • Extra balance games, extra cardio stuff, some extra strength training.
  • It now estimates the number of calories burned.
  • You can add pets :)
  • There is group mode (haven't tried this yet)
  • The games make you think a lot more. Adding up numbers, tilting your remote one way while you lean another way. It's like walking and chewing gum on steroids.

We got it at Costco for $18. Well worth it if you're a bit bored with the original.

I think it is worth getting the update even if you are new to Wii Fit.

  • The ability to create your own workouts makes it easier to get a good program going.
  • The ability to do a quick check-in is a wonderful time saver. In the old system, you had to go through the whole weigh-in and test. Now it is a very quick process to track your weights.
  • There are memory tests during the running exercises, which are very good for some of us!
