I'm convinced that monitoring caloric intake is critical to losing weight. Is there a really dirt-simple way to do this? One that hardly takes any time at all?

There are several web sites that will allow you to do this easily. Daily Burn is one that has some quick and easy tools you can use to track this for free. If you have an iPhone, they also have a Food Scanner app that allows you to just scan barcodes off food you eat and sync it to the web site to track everything. I'm sure others here can recommend more options. |

Another iphone app is Lose it! I think it is very friendly in that it allows you to define favorite foods and recipes, as well as has a look-up for brand name foods if you do prefab or take-out food often. As you add your foods eaten during the day, the app totals how many calories you have left so you can plan the rest of your meals/munches. |
